Thank you for choosing our practice to provide veterinary care for your pet.  We would like you to know about the unique qualities that we believe make our practice special.

OUR HISTORY:
Our practice was started in 1952 by Dr. Charles P. Hesse, the first veterinarian to open on the Westbank. The practice was moved to its present location in 1954, where it has been serving the Westbank community for over 50 years. In 1978, Dr. David Hesse joined his father in the practice after graduating with honors from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. After working together for six years, Dr. Charles Hesse retired from active practice and Dr. David Hesse has continued the family tradition of providing veterinary care to the community. We are very proud of our many years of service, longer than any other veterinary practice on the Westbank, and consider each of our clients to be a special member of our practice family.

SERVICE:
The Gretna Animal Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital specializing in the practice of canine and feline internal medicine and surgery. We offer a wide variety of programs ranging from puppy or kitten preventive medicine to geriatric risk factor management, and everything in between for your pet. Our hospital is equipped to perform a variety of procedures such as internal medicine, surgery (including laser surgical procedures), dentistry, radiology (x-rays), and ultrasound. We can perform a wide range of diagnostic tests in our own laboratory or utilize outside laboratory specialists to help diagnose your pet's problems.  We offer wellness programs for all dogs and cats, depending on their age and medical condition, and we can provide therapy for your pet either on an outpatient or in-hospital patient basis, depending on the nature of your pet's problem. Clinic hours are 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm weekdays and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays. Appointments to see the doctor are required. House calls for the elderly or the disabled can be arranged.

BOARDING:
Our boarding kennel is one of the largest on the Westbank, and features spacious indoor-outdoor runs for all dogs, with access to our exercise yard daily for playtime. Cats are kept in special cages and are allowed to exercise and play in our enclosed ward area each day. We believe the care we can provide your pet while you are away is the best available, and hope you will visit our kennel for inspection during our regular kennel hours, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm weekdays, and 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturdays.

REFERRALS:
Our practice relies on referrals from our clients to grow and be successful.  If a new client lists your name as their referral source, we will give you a 10% discount on your next office visit or product purchase (we regret that this may not be used for hospital, surgical, or boarding charges).
